I am absolutely in favour of anyone being able to express their religious beliefs and convictions with the proviso that in doing so they are not depriving others of their right to do the same or oppressing them in any way.

A vote to ban religious expression would do no good and might do more harm in the same sort of way that prohibition (booze) was never effective.
Religion will likely fade out on its own ..eventually.

It would be both immoral - my freedom implies their freedom - and counterproductive - religions thrive under persecution. As long as religion is seen as personal expression and others do not impose their beliefs on me, it would be very wrong to impose my unbelief on them.

    Banning would be foolishness.

You ban something, you give it an allure. Got Alcohol?

Though I disagree with their views, it would be wrong to refuse them the right to believe them. No one should impose their beliefs on others, including disbelief.

There would be no point. Banning religion only makes it stronger. Had the Romans not outlawed it way back it might just have petered out (no pun intended) as soon as believes saw there would be no second coming during their lifetimes - as they expected.

Repression only strengthens the depth of belief.

If I could wave it all away by magic and make believers see how ridiculous it all is somehow, I would consider that.

But certainly not any doable repression.

Allow, but limit influence as much as possible.. That should be a priority actually.

EDIT: Aww... voted for the wrong thing. Forgive me. :*(

a ban on religious expression would be as futile as the ban on the sale and possession of marijuana.

in reality though i probably wouldn't vote at all.

Given what I know what they plan and how they plan to achieve it and the history of what I see, I think it is time for a different road ..

Sabotage, Assassinations, Kidnappings, Extortion's and Manipulations just a bunch of organized criminals as far as I can see with more control over to many events than most would realize ..

    Like any other organizations :

Fool me once shame on you
Fool me twice shame on me
    Never again ..

A person's right to believe as he/she will must be defended; to try to ban thinking tends to create martyrs. On the other hand, we must fight to defend what we believe to be right even if this involves attacking people's views.

Voting to ban all religious expression, wouldn't get rid of the problem of religious bigotry. Banning all religious expression would add another layer of bigotry to our world.

Most atheists want people to stop believing in ghost stories and stop trying to force your religious values on others(gay marriage for example). To ban their ridiculous beliefs would just make an already bad problem worse. What we need to do, is prevent child drafting, then religion would die in a generation. Oh well, that'll never happen.

Just about everything is dangerous as an absolute. Religions have and continue to play important psychological roles in people's lives (that isn't to say the same role can't be played by other, non-religious factors). To take that away would be dangerous.

Also, to ban religious practice would be tantamount to martyring it. That's all we need, a group of zealots undermining society because they feel it has wronged them.

Lastly, but not of least importance, I believe people should have the freedom to believe and practice whatever they want, so long as they don't push it on me (which means not legislating your religion, or trying to indoctrinate my children, no matter how "well intentioned").

If the poll was "If you could make it where everyone could come to their senses and realize that there is no god, so that everyone can get along better, would you?" then I would vote yes. However, banning religious expression is a different thing. If X is what you believe, then you have the right to believe it. Just don't shove your beliefs down my throat, and don't "condemn" me for not sharing the same beliefs that you do.

Not only would I vote against such a ban, I would be on the steps of the capital building with a picket sign and some strong words for the fascist moron who proposed such a bill.

Freedom of religion is a very clear concept. The state's position on religion and religious expression is to be neutrality and nothing else.

While i personally don't believe, i have no issue with another's personal choice. Organised religion i take issue with, but not nearly as much as i take issue with lack of personal expression.

I have no desire to censor or oppress anyone for their beliefs. That being said, I do believe that there should be a limit to how far they can go in "expressing" their religion: i.e. imposing their beliefs on others, legislating based on religious ideas, teaching theology in a science class at a public school etc.
