my 88 305 blew flames threw passenger valve cover and throttle body why did this happen?

brought #1 up tdc, rotor towards #1 cyl. timimng: 1 8 4 3 6 5 7 2 clockwise

    That's a real "backfire". Where the explosion takes place in the intake area.
    (Exhaust explosions are not technically backfires.)
    I would imagine an intake valve was open when that cylinder's plug fired.
    Gas vapor must have been under the valve cover.
    I wouldn't expect the explosion to get past the valve stem seals and ignite it.
    I would want a mentor to come visit and go over the timing with me.
    Someone will help, they will want to see this.
