Batter has 2 strikes and swings and misses but ball hits batter on back shoulder. Umpire calls batter out and dead ball. Is this correct?

I was watching the Dodger game the other night on TV. Russel Martin was at bat on ball four the pitch hit the catcher in the mask and bounded out of play into the Cubs dugout. Martin was only awarded first base! Shouldn't he have gotten second base?
