Politics and modern events?

With the death of Osama bin Laden dominating the day's discussion, I thought I'd point out that we have a dedicated category for OBL-related Q&A:

But this brings up one of the paradoxes of categorization. You might notice this is a subcategory of Politics and modern events--but how much time should pass before a "modern event" becomes "history"? We have no internal policy guideline on this, so we'd love to hear your thoughts!

  • Love it. Now all those questions can be shoved into one place and I will no longer have to view the people who celebrate a persons death.

  • Right on Ginger.
    Good idea Rich.
I will refrain from asking more " critical" questions, because I think people convinced me I MUST be more loyal to our beloved goernment, because after all thEY do know truth, speak truth always. the end for me on this topic.
Thanks for putting all questions into the new category.
I wish I could delete my old ones posted yesterday.
    cheers

  • It's not that big of a deal. The following day after a historical event is history. His death is history. Weather or not to show his dead picture is still an event waiting to happen.

  • The transition from modern events to history depends on your perspective. A professor of ancient history is going to have a far different view of modern than CNN.

Personally, I would move events over 20 years old into the history section.

  • Why 20 years? That seems rather arbitrary.

  • My opinion?

Play it by ear. Regardless of the historical circumstances behind OBL's death, so long as his influence is felt in his terrorist organization's actions, then current events will keep it alive.

Give it some time and simply move it to a historical category whenever it "feels" right. Could be a week, a month, or a year. No rush.
