Today, the Answerbag team rolled out one major fix you've been asking for, plus some necessary tweaks to protect the site. I'll briefly explain both:
1. First up is a fix for an issue that affected those of you who report spammy users. Sometimes, if you reported a user as spammy, and our dedicated cadre of mods went ahead and nuked that spammy user, a glitch in the system could actually deduct points from you, instead of reward you properly.
We believe that this is now fixed. Let us know what you see over the next few days!
2. AB has been coming under attack from some over-zealous bots that were hitting our search result pages too hard. This actually a) costs us money, and b) makes the site slower for our real human members. Today, we launched several tactics to thwart those bots, including one change that some of you may notice: We're requiring that you have cookies enabled to search Answerbag. Of course, you need cookies enabled to login and really use the site effectively, so I don't think this should mar anything for anyone. But, of course — let us know if you run into any problems!
Brilliant!! I am so pleased! I don't have to officially know you to be proud of you, do I? Because that would be so disappointing! Please take the time to absorb the message: I am very thankful for your work, and am very proud of you, too :)
Does that fix include those who flag the spammers' questions/answers? Or will their percentage points still be affected.
I don't recall having points deducted, but HAVE been affected by the percentage problem. I used to be at 97% with over 200 mods in the queue to be accepted/rejected, and now, having flagged a couple of spammers' questions and answers, and the account having been nuked without counting the flags, am at 96% most of the time, with less than 20 waiting for acceptance/rejection.
(I know it's nit-picky, but it DOES affect a lot of users. People are either not reporting the spammers until the questions/answers flags get accepted, are not reporting spammers at all, or they are not flagging those questions/answers and simply reporting them because they know they affect others, so the questions/answers have the potential to "stick around" a bit longer than they should.)
Thanks for fixing some things before the redesigned site is in affect, and thanks for keeping up informed! ;-)
I am having problems enabling the cookies in my computer. All I can figure out is to delete all the cookies(according to the instructions on my computer) and then start all over. I do not wish to do this because it will cause many problems with all the information I already have set up. So please tell my what I can do in order to be able to ask questions and keep from getting the message for me to enable the cookies for your site. Also I'd like to know if everyone is required to do this?

@BigDaddy: Yes, the fix should address the percentage problem. I used "points" to mean "percentages," but now I recognize that's a bit confusing :) But the fix I was mentioning was meant to fix exactly the issue you describe.
@Marguerite: Are you getting redirected to the "Cookies" page when you try to search? If not, you should be all set.
If you ARE getting redirected, we can help you get cookies enabled. But can you tell us what web browser you're using first? Is it Internet Explorer, Firefox, or something else?

I am still getting redirected. I have Norton, but you have no info on that.

I did but it's not responding. I think it must be my Norton virus program keeping it from happening. Thanks!
All I'm seeing you paste is the URL to the site that tells you your user-agent (useragent.org), as opposed to the user agent information itself, if that makes sense.

Hi again,

There is no one to help me. I live up in the mountains in a remote area. That is why I'm on AB a lot. I have no one to talk to, esp. anybody with computer knowledge. But I think I can do what you tell me if you can guide me through it. I will type what you want me to type. I noticed you aren't seeing what I'm seeing so here it is.
To ensure that cookies are enabled in Internet Explorer 7, follow these steps:
1. Click the "Tools" button. It's usually on the upper right of your browser window.
2. Click "Internet Options"
3. Click the "Privacy" tab
4. Drag the slider to allow/enable all cookies.
I don't have a copy if IE7 here, so I'm doing that from memory. Let me know if that works!

I did all that. So how long will it take for that to work? I went back to try to place a questions but couldn't. Or do I need to do this again. Your instructions are very clear and easy to follow. Everything you said was there, was. Thank you. I hope it works. If not, I'll drop you a line to see what to do next.

Lex, I'm going to call one of my friends and see if she can help me with this. If she can't, I'll check back with you.
Now, try restarting your browser. Close all open browser windows, and then open it up again. (You might want to verify that the cookie settings you changed earlier are still the same after this process.)
Try another search on AB. Do you still get redirected?
