Instructions

Cubist Art

  • Step 1:
Cubist art paintings often depict an object from the modern world, shown from many different viewpoints. People, places and objects are represented in abstract geometric forms.

Georges Braque

  • Step 1:
One of the most significant Cubists was French painter and sculptor Georges Braque. His approach to Cubism was analytical and experimental, with geometric perspectives that created visual illusions.

Pablo Picasso

  • Step 1:
Spaniard Pablo Picasso was another pioneer of Cubist art. His collage technique of gluing printed images onto painted still life dominated the second period of this art genre, known as Synthetic Cubism.

Paul Cezanne

  • Step 1:
The later paintings of Paul Cezanne were an inspiration to both Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso. A Post-Impressionist, Paul Cezanne was arguably the first abstract artist, who strayed away from perspective art to emphasize the difference between painting and reality.

Analytical Cubism

  • Step 1:
The early period of Cubism can be classified as Analytical Cubism. This style demonstrated the artist as analyst, using different viewpoints to construct geometric shapes that portrayed the essence of a subject.

Synthetic Cubism

  • Step 1:
Pablo Picasso's "Still Life With Chair Caning" was the primary catalyst for Synthetic Cubism. This style featured a collage of colors, textures, depths and perspectives that broke all rules of form.
