Concordance Function
Step 1:
With a Strong's Concordance, you can find any Bible verse, phrase or word even if you have no idea where it's located. Let's say you become curious about Jesus' statement, "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find." With the Strong's Concordance, you can look up the word "given" and find a list of the verses including that word. One of those will be Luke 11:9, the specific verse you have in mind.
Original Text
Step 1:
All concordances provide the same feature, only with a less exhaustive list of words. The unique feature in the Strong's Concordance is the linking back to the original text. Next to the word "seek" in Luke 11:9, for example, is the number 2212, taking you back to the original Greek root word "zhtew." These numbers are commonly referred to as "Strong's numbers."
Word Meanings
Step 1:
The Strong's Concordance also lists each word in the King James Bible in alphabetical order along with each verse the word appears in, and a bit of the verse text. From there, you can look up the meaning of the original Hebrew or Greek word in the dictionary in back.
Editions
Step 1:
Many editions and versions of "Strong's Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible" have been published over the years. There are expanded editions, red-letter editions, one called "Strongest Strong's" and some combined with other Bible dictionaries. Strong's Concordance has been applied to other versions of the Bible as well, such as the New International Version.
Online Searches
Step 1:
Online searches have improved the efficiency of finding verses by allowing users to look for more than one word at a time. Now, you can type in "Ask given seek find" and narrow down your results. Strong's numbers are incorporated into some online concordances, allowing people to look up a word, click on the number and then see a list of other verses using that particular root word.
