InstructionsDisc FreezingStep 1: If you begin to notice you're having issues with your games freezing while you play, there are a few approaches you can take to remedy the issue. First, check to see if any other games share the issue. This helps to identify whether it's just the one disc or a problem with the console. Check to see if your disc is clean, as dirt or grime on a disc can cause it to play improperly.
If you're using a game modification device such as a GameShark, remember that this could also cause the game to freeze. If this is the case, stop using the device and see if the game works then.
You should also be sure that the disc is compatible with your PS2. The PS2 can play PS2 game discs, CDs, DVDs, and most PSOne games. Sometimes freezing is a result of incompatibility.
Power ProblemsStep 1: If you're not getting any power to your console, make sure that all of the power cables are properly connected to your PS2. Check to make sure that the plug is inserted correctly into the power outlet.
If your console still isn't working, try another PS2 power supply, or plug another device into the outlet to make sure the outlet is functioning properly. Only use an official PS2 power supply for your PS2. Using the wrong supply could damage your console.
Peripheral IssuesStep 1: If you're experiencing issues with your controller, start by making sure it is connected correctly to your system. Sometimes, static electricity causes problems for controllers. Power off the console, unplug it, wait 15 to 30 seconds, and try again. If you're using a third-party controller, this might also be the issue, because these are not officially endorsed by Sony and might not work correctly.
As for memory card issues, make sure the memory card is inserted properly into the memory card slot. Original PlayStation memory cards can only save files for original PlayStation games, and PlayStation 2 8 MB cards can only save PS2 game data. If a game isn't saving, this might be due to a lack of space. Check the space available on your card and make deletions if necessary. Try another card to see if that works.
