Things You’ll Need:

  • literature on different cultures
  • Step 1:
    Sit the 10 year old in a room with no distraction
  • Step 2:
    Ask the 10 year old questions about racism to get a feel on what he knows
  • Step 3:
    Begin by letting them know the dictionary definition of racism
  • Step 4:
    Explain that not all people in the world are nice and that there are some that just don’t like you because of your skin, religion, and many other reasons
  • Step 5:
    Show the 10 year old some literature on the subject
  • Step 6:
    Let them know that you will always love them no matter what
  • Step 7:
    Tell them to please come to you if they have any questions regarding racism and/or other cultures and people

Tips & Warnings

  • warn them about some of the racial slurs that people use (don't necessarily tell them the words but let them know that there are words out there that are not appropriate, not just curse words)
