How to Write an Invitation for an Engagement

Instructions

  • Step 1:
    Include all important information and the party's host. Make sure guests know the time, date, location and the engaged couple. Proper etiquette requires that engagement invitations include the hosts of the party. Also, including a map or directions can be helpful for guests not familiar with the location.
  • Step 2:
    Consider engagement party invitation wording like, "Join us for a celebration of our love," or "We request your attendance to celebrate our engagement." Make sure to include your names on the invitation, at the bottom is fine, and a phone number so guests can RSVP. Include information such as if there is a dress code for the party.
  • Step 3:
    List the bride's parents first on the invitation. Consider these examples, "Bride's parents along with groom's parents invite you to celebrate the engagement of couple's name," or "Bride's parents together with groom's parents announce the engagement of couple's name."
  • Step 4:
    Traditionally, engagement parties were hosted by the bride's parents. This is not always the case. If one set of parents is hosting an engagement party use invitation wording like, "Bride's parents invite you to celebrate the engagement of their daughter, name to name, son of groom's parents," or "Bride's parents request your presence at the engagement celebration of (insert couple's name)."
  • Step 5:
    Hosted by friends. Engagement parties given by friends are often cocktail parties or have a theme. Convey this information in the engagement invitation wording. Try something like, "In celebration of couple's names engagement a cocktail party will be held in their honor," or "We're bubbling with news...couple's name are engaged! Join us for a cocktail party." Include the host's names at the bottom of the invitation.
  • Step 6:
    Add a personal touch. Include a poem or quote on the engagement invitation, reflecting the couple. Consider using a photo of the couple as a background for the invitation.
