Instructions

Things You’ll Need:

  • Yaz (available through prescription)
  • Step 1:
Decide if you would like to begin your Yaz regimen with a Day-1 start or a Sunday start. If you start taking Yaz on Sunday, you will need to use a backup method of contraception, such as condoms, for the first week of taking Yaz. If you choose a Day-1 start, you will take your first Yaz pill on the day your next period starts. A Day-1 start does not require a backup method of birth control once you start taking Yaz.
  • Step 2:
Take your first active Yaz pill according to the method you decided on in Step 1. The 24 active pills are pink. Use backup contraception if you start your birth control regimen through the Sunday start option.
  • Step 3:
Take one active Yaz pill a day for the following 23 days. Take the pills at approximately the same time each day to ensure your body is receiving a constant supply of the birth control hormones.
  • Step 4:
Take a white placebo pill the day after you take your 24th active pill. Take the four placebo pills over four days. During this time, you will receive your period.
  • Step 5:
Begin a new package of Yaz pills the day after you finish the placebo pills. Continue to take the active pills at the same time each day, followed by the four placebo pills.

Tips & Warnings

  • Consult your physician if you have any questions or concerns about Yaz.
  • Some side effects are possible; consult your doctor if you have concerns. Taking Yaz increases a woman's risk of cardiovascular disease, especially for women who smoke and/or are over age 35.
