How to Stay Warm in a Sleeping Bag

Instructions

Things You’ll Need:

  • Sleeping bag
  • Warm clothes
  • Water bottle
  • Sleeping pad
  • Step 1:
Remember that heat escapes your body mainly through the head and feet. Wear socks and a warm hat when you sleep.
  • Step 2:
Put hot water in a water bottle and stick it in the bottom of your sleeping bag to warm it before you even get in the bag.
  • Step 3:
If you're sleeping with someone, zip the bags together if it's possible and use the other person for extra body heat.
  • Step 4:
Sleep all the way in the bag with the top closed over your head to keep the heat in.
  • Step 5:
Keep the bag on top of the sleeping pad as much as possible. The pad not only provides you with a cushion, but if the bag is directly on the ground, it will suck the heat out. The sleeping pad acts as an insulator.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you know you're going to be camping in cold weather before you buy your sleeping bag, make sure to buy a warm bag, preferably one that will keep you comfortable at 0 degrees farenheit. Anything over 20 degrees will probably not be warm enough.
