Instructions

Things You’ll Need:

  • Step 1:
Remove all game disks and other memory devices from the Playstation 2. The PS2 must be empty in order to access the "Memory Settings."
  • Step 2:
Place the corrupt PS2 memory card in the first memory slot and turn on the console. This will bring you to a loading screen and the system settings menu.
  • Step 3:
Access "System Configuration" and then the "Memory Settings" subfolder.
  • Step 4:
Choose the first memory card and select "Format" from the available options. Be aware that this will delete all data from the card and reset it to its factory basic settings.
  • Step 5:
Wait for the card to finish formatting. Once this process is complete, you will have an empty PS2 memory card ready to be loaded with new information.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure you have the latest PS2 firmware available from the Playstation Network. This includes all memory utilities.
  • Reformatting should be a last resort for memory cards. Check the Playstation official troubleshooting page for other ways to attempt to reclaim data.
