How to Recycle Plastic for Clothes

  • Step 1:
Contact your local recycling provider and sign up for recycling if you are not currently enrolled. Your current waste collector might provide recycling. Another option is dropping off your recyclables at a local recycling center.
  • Step 2:
Setup a container in your kitchen that is specifically for plastic material. This will make it easier and more convenient for you to recycle your plastic. After this container is filled up, you can put it in your car for drop off or transfer it to your recycling provider's container.
  • Step 3:
Look on the bottom of your plastic containers and bottles to determine what number plastic they are. Different areas accept different numbered plastics. Plastics are numbered 1 through 7, and this number is located on the side or bottom of the product in the middle of the triangle formed by recycling arrows.
  • Step 4:
Spread the word to friends and family about how to recycle their plastic soda and water bottles. More clothing will be made from recycled plastic only if there is enough supply of the plastic.

  • Provide incentives for your children, family or friends to recycle in your home.
