Instructions

Things You’ll Need:

  • Web browser software
  • Step 1:
Start your computer's Web browser by double-clicking its icon, often located on your computer's desktop. No matter which operating system you use, a default Web browser is installed on your computer. If you're using the Microsoft Windows operating system, you have Internet Explorer. If you're using an Apple computer, you have the Safari browser. If you're using the Linux operating system, Mozilla Firefox is the default Web browser.
  • Step 2:
Type the address of the website you want to visit into your Web browser's address bar. The address bar is located at the top of the browser window. A website's address usually starts with "http://www." and may be called its URL (uniform resource locator).
  • Step 3:
Press the "Enter" key on your keyboard, with the cursor still in the browser's address bar, to load the website.

Tips & Warnings

  • Website addresses always begin with "http://," but don't panic if the address of the website you want to visit doesn't include "www." The website will still load.If you can't remember the address of a website or don't know a website for a topic you want to explore, use a search engine to locate websites related to your topic. Popular search engines include Google.com and Yahoo.com.
