Instructions

Things You’ll Need:

  • Grammar books and workbooks
  • Vocabulary books and workbooks
  • Step 1:
Consider a college education, and major in English and grammar. This type of education will teach you grammar, structure, vocabulary and linguistics, giving you a well-rounded understanding of professional English.
  • Step 2:
Take English and grammar courses as they are made available to you. Keep an eye out in your local paper for courses in professional and business English, and enroll quickly.
  • Step 3:
Check your local library for grammar and vocabulary-building books. Read and practice the exercises to expand your knowledge of how to speak and write in English on a professional level.
  • Step 4:
Practice proper pronunciation. If you are uncertain about how a word is pronounced, check the phonetic breakdown of the word. You may also use an online dictionary tool to give a sound sample of the word's pronunciation.
  • Step 5:
Take advantage of free online resources that teach professional English, such as websites, worksheets, videos and podcasts. Always make sure that the sources you get this information from are accurate, reputable and reliable.
  • Step 6:
Read voraciously. Read everything you can get your hands on, from magazine articles and books to professional journals and manuals. When reading, pay attention to sentence structure, grammar, punctuation and syntax.
  • Step 7:
Use crossword puzzles to increase your spelling agility and vocabulary.
  • Step 8:
Communicate regularly with educated business professionals, and study their writing and speaking styles.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use reliable online sources. Check accreditation to make sure your materials are up to date, as English is a quickly evolving and ever-changing language.
