Things You’ll Need:

  • Adobe Flash CS3 or CS4 Computer speakers
  • Step 1:
Check out videos at Lynda.com (see Resources). Once you subscribe to the site, Lynda.com offers a great number of videos to learn Flash and other web design and programming skills. If you're on a tight budget, you can simply even work through the free videos the site offers to get a sense of working with Flash.
  • Step 2:
Don't rule out YouTube. If wanting to learn a specific technique in Flash, there are often times many videos posted on YouTube taking you step by step through the process.
  • Step 3:
Surf Flash forums. Once you have a basic understanding of Flash, forums such as those at Kirupa.com or gotoAndLearn.com can help you troubleshoot any problems you may have or help you figure out where to start with a specific issue.
  • Step 4:
Check out free tutorials from W3Schools (see Resources). Their instructions cover tweening and the basics of managing items on the stage, rather than simply coding things in ActionScript.
  • Step 5:
Once you've gotten the basics down, make sure to consult the Adobe Flash Developer Center (see Resources). The site serves essentially as an encyclopedia of all things Flash related and will give detailed information about ActionScript commands for nearly all incarnations of the programming language.
