Instructions

  • Step 1:
Think about how far the relationship has progressed. If it is still just casual dating, there may be no need for the family to get to know this person. If the relationship is far more serious, family members may feel shut out of your life if they are not introduced to the significant other.
  • Step 2:
Imagine the future of the relationship. If you can see a future in it, you may want to acquaint your family and significant other now. That will allow them a chance to get to know each other people the relationship gets even more serious. It will also give the family a chance to weigh in with their thoughts about the person and the relationship in general.
  • Step 3:
Decide how ingrained you want the significant other in your life. If you want to keep them separate, there's no need to mention them to each other. But if you do want them as a part of the rest of your life, you will have to introduce them to your family eventually.
  • Step 4:
Wait until the family and the significant other have asked about each other. If the person you are seeing has never asked about your family, the relationship is probably not as serious as you think. If they have asked, they want to know more about you and to be a part of more aspects of your life. If your family has asked and been put off, suspicion and prying will soon begin. That's the point at which the two should be introduced.
