Instructions

Things You’ll Need:

  • Driver CD for your graphics card

Installing From a CD

  • Step 1:
Insert the CD that was included with your graphics card into your CD/DVD drive. Most graphics card CDs have an auto-start feature that brings up a menu with options.
  • Step 2:
Select the "Install Drivers" option from the menu. This will bring you to the installation program. Follow the on-screen instructions to begin the display driver installation. Some installation programs include extra features you may want to install, while others simply begin automatically installing the drivers.
  • Step 3:
Restart your computer once the driver installation is complete. Depending on the driver program, you may have to repeat this restart a second time if subsequent file installations occur.

Installing From a Downloaded File

  • Step 1:
Go to the manufacturer's website and search for the model of your graphics card.
  • Step 2:
Download the latest driver package for your card. Save it to your desktop for ease of finding it should you need to reinstall the driver in the future.
  • Step 3:
Execute the program once the download is complete. This will bring up the driver installation program. Follow the on-screen instructions, if any.
  • Step 4:
Restart your computer once the driver installation is complete. Depending on the driver program, you may have to repeat this restart a second time if subsequent file installations occur.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always keep your display drivers up-to-date. Some graphics cards include an auto-update option, allowing you to schedule a search for the most current drivers on a regular basis.
  • Always make sure you are installing the proper drivers for your display card. If you install drivers meant for a different card, software conflicts can occur that severely limit the performance of your card.
