How to Find Scholarships for Online Universities

  • Step 1:
Plan your time wisely. There are an abundance of scholarships available, so be sure that you set aside a specific time to plan and to search for relevant scholarships.
  • Step 2:
Create a list of scholarships for which you are eligible and organize them in order of the date the applications are due. Being organized will be critical to your success when applying for scholarships.
  • Step 3:
Consult the online university you want to attend. In addition to looking for general scholarships, inquire with the online university as to whether they offer scholarships for students.
  • Step 4:
Contact local community organizations to determine if they offer scholarships to area students who will be attending online universities. If you do find local scholarships, ensure that you meet the eligibility requirements and give yourself plenty of time to apply ahead of the deadline.
  • Step 5:
Talk to your local Chamber of Commerce office to determine if they offer scholarships for local college students.
  • Step 6:
Check with religious groups with which you may be affiliated and request a list of any financial aid they offer to college students.

Tips & Warnings

  • Read the eligibility requirements for each scholarship carefully, so you do not waste time applying for scholarships for which you are not eligible.
  • Most scholarships require recommendation letters from teachers or others who know you well, so think ahead of time about who will provide you with the best references.
  • Not all online universities accept financial aid, including scholarships, so find out if the online universities you are considering do or do not accept financial aid.
