Instructions

  • Step 1:
Determine whether the hearing aid is an analog or digital model. Digital models will cost more, but have better sound quality than analog versions.
  • Step 2:
Review the specifications to see what features are included with the hearing aids you are evaluating. Some significant features to consider are background noise reduction, speech enhancement, volume control, numerous channels and remote control compatibility.
  • Step 3:
Look at the fit of the hearing aid. When you evaluate the different types, you will want to look at how you will need to wear the hearing aid. Options include in the ear canal, behind the ear and in the ear.
  • Step 4:
Read reviews. A part of evaluation is looking at what other consumers are saying about hearing aids they have purchased. You can read hearing aid reviews on sites like Lloyd's Hearing Aid.
  • Step 5:
Compare prices. Digital versions will likely cost you upwards of $1,000 while analog versions can be found for a few hundred dollars. You can look at prices and feature comparisons through hearing aid retailers like Aid Right.
  • Step 6:
Check the warranty included with the hearing aids you are considering. Repair warranty is an important consideration for hearing aid purchases. Average hearing aid warranties fall between one and three years of coverage.
