How to Drive a Truck

Instructions

  • Step 1:
Back up out of the driveway or parking space by looking over your shoulder. Do this after looking out of both mirrors to make sure the path is clear. Trucks sit up higher than cars, so checking behind the truck before you get in is a good safety precaution.
  • Step 2:
Make sure to check all mirrors and blind spots at least twice before changing lanes when other cars are around. Trucks can be much longer than cars, so more room is needed in front of the vehicle in the next lane.
  • Step 3:
Slow down when driving around sharp corners. Trucks are more top heavy and are more prone to flipping over than cars.
  • Step 4:
Steer the truck like you would a car, but be careful to not over--steer the steering wheel. There is normally more "play" in the steering wheel of a truck, so steering won't be as responsive as a car's steering.

Tips & Warnings

  • Practice driving a truck before attempting to tow a trailer or haul a load in it.
