Instructions

Things You’ll Need:

  • Guru
  • Vedas
  • Upanishads
  • Bhagavad Gita
  • Step 1:
    Read and study ancient Vedanta (Hindu) texts, Vedas, Upanishads, Bhagavad Gita. Become familiar with the most fundamental beliefs: That Thou Art, I am Brahman, This Self is Brahman and Brahman is Consciousness.
  • Step 2:
    Meditate on the mantra "I am." Jnana yoga practice seeks to answer the question, "Who am I?"
  • Step 3:
    Concentrate on "I." The way to the true self is through the "I."
  • Step 4:
    Follow the "I" with all of the statements that can proceed from it. I do this. I want that. When you can hold the thought of "I" in your mind, you will be close to the root of all human problems, the ego.
  • Step 5:
    Leave the thought of "I" behind. Experience the resistance of ego as it struggles to maintain its hold on your awareness. God consciousness is breaking through now. Ultimate awareness is when all thought ceases and you, simply, are.
  • Step 6:
    Concentrate and your breath will align with your concentration. The body follows the mind. The result of Jnana Yoga is freedom from anxiety and fear as you carry your awareness of the true Self into all of your activities. Gradually you will be able to see the truth of what once were baffling issues.
  • Step 7:
    Discuss meditation and readings with a teacher who will guide you on your path to self realization.

Tips & Warnings

  • Avoid expectations. Simply learn and meditate. It is not possible to force God consciousness. Simple do and be. That is sufficient.
  • It is imperative to find a guru. Without guidance, it is difficult, if not impossible, to know if one is free from ego or still under its influence.
