How to Connect to a Filemaker Server

Instructions

Things You’ll Need:

  • FileMaker Server 7 or later, with hosted databases
  • Mac or PC
  • FileMaker software version 7 or later
  • Step 1:
    Start the FileMaker program on your computer, and when the welcome screen appears, click "Cancel."
  • Step 2:
    Go to the "File" menu at the top and choose "Open Remote."
  • Step 3:
    In the window that opens, choose "Favorite Hosts" from the "View" menu.
  • Step 4:
    Click "Add" and enter the address of your FileMaker server in the appropriate field. Give the new server a name and then click "Save."
  • Step 5:
    The server address you just added will now appear in the "Favorite Hosts" list. Click on the server's name and enter the username and password that you have been assigned for the databases.
  • Step 6:
    The databases that your account has access to will now appear in the "Available Files" list. Click on any file name and click "Open."
  • Step 7:
    Enter your username and password once again, and then the shared database will open.
