Instructions

  • Step 1:
Ensure you have access to a flash chat room community that uses or is in need of moderators. If you notice a lot of individuals within the chat room who constantly violate the agreements, then a moderator is likely needed. If you don't know of a flash chat community you would like to moderate, some websites that have flash chat communities are TalkCity.com, EveryWhereChat.com and LiveOnlineChat.net.
  • Step 2:
Read the user guidelines for the flash chat room to become familiar with the chat room's rules. For example, some user guidelines that may be frequently violated are spamming, posting links and using vulgar language.
  • Step 3:
Participate in the flash chat rooms regularly. By participating in the chat rooms, you establish a "presence" in the room. If the flash chat room creator sees you are a frequent visitor of the chat room known for keeping order in the room, then you may stand a better chance of becoming a moderator.
  • Step 4:
Avoid getting involved in "petty" chat room disputes. Don't get involved in chat room arguments, only listen and monitor. If you are labeled as one of the troublemakers in the room, you are not likely to be chosen as a moderator.
  • Step 5:
Contact the owner of the flash chat room through electronic communication. You generally know who the owner of the chat room is because he makes his presence known in the room. Send him a private message through the flash chat room to advise him that you have been a member of the chat room for a while, have a history of maintaining order in the chat room and want to be a moderator during your free time. Let the owner know what hours you are available to moderate or if your hours are flexible.
  • Step 6:
Follow up with the flash chat room owner if you do not hear from her regarding whether or not you have been accepted to moderate the flash chat community.
