How to Become Friends With a Teenage Sister-In-Law

Instructions

  • Step 1:
Before meeting your new sister-in-law, get some information about her. Ask your wife about her teenage sister and find out if the two of you have anything in common. This is an important step in creating any kind of relationship with a teenage sister-in-law.
  • Step 2:
When you're introduced to your new teenage sister-in-law, try to be as informal as possible. Chances are that this particular teenager is more relaxed than other members of your new family. If you're relaxed, she will be as well, thus making your first meeting a pleasant experience for both parties.
  • Step 3:
Offer to go out with your wife and your teenage sister-in-law. This will help you to see how the two sisters interact with one another.
  • Step 4:
Take your teenage sister-in-law out to her favorite restaurant on a night when she doesn't have any other plans. This will mean a lot to her as you're reaching out to her on a night when she may have been bored. You also won't be taking any time away from her friends, thus making the night not seem like something that she “has to do” since you're now a member of the family.
  • Step 5:
Open up to your new sister-in-law about your experiences as a teenager. Tell her stories about things that you used to do when you were her age. This will help the two of you relate to one another.
  • Step 6:
Be willing to listen to your sister-in-law talk about things. Teenage girls go through things that they don't necessarily want to talk about with those that they've known since childhood. Become a confident to your sister-in-law and earn her trust. This will create a bond between the two of you.
