Instructions

  • Step 1:
    Go to a site such as Kelley Blue Book (links are provided at the end of the article) and select used cars to begin the process of estimating the value of your car.
  • Step 2:
    Enter the make, model and year of your car. This is fairly basic information, but if you need help, you should consult your car's manual.
  • Step 3:
    Follow the prompts. This will require entering details about your make and model, including any special features such as a stereo system, leather interior or sun roof. You will also need to enter your car's mileage.
  • Step 4:
    Assess the condition of your car. This includes looking for any damage to both the interior or exterior of the vehicle. You should also be honest about any mechanical problems that the car may have, as well as recent work that has been done.
  • Step 5:
    Determine your options. You may need to go through the review several times and consult more than one site. You should consider whether your best option is to trade your car in or sell it privately.
