Department of Health

  • Step 1:
    The Wisconsin Department of Health Services runs a Family Planning Reproductive Health Program that provides women and couples with contraceptive services. The program offers pregnancy testing, reproductive health screening and birth control. The family-planning program was implemented to give people across the state access to quality, affordable contraception and health care.

Waiver Program

  • Step 1:
    Wisconsin has a Family Planning Waiver Program that caters to low-income women between the ages of 15 and 44. The primary goal of this program is to avoid unwanted pregnancies. Eligible women who sign up for this program are given immediate access to health care and contraception free of charge. In Wisconsin, this program is also called BadgerCare Plus and is subsidized through Medicaid.

Private Practice

  • Step 1:
    Family Planning Health Services is a privately owned, nonprofit reproductive health-care center in central Wisconsin counties. It is confidential and low cost, and provides care to people of all ages and income. The center does not supply adoption or abortion services, though it can give basic information about the services. The organization is a member of the Wisconsin Family Planning and Reproductive Health Association.

Universities

  • Step 1:
    Students may have access to family-planning services at their university's Student Health Center. Some students will be eligible for free services under the waiver program but will need to check with the center first. Student Health Centers often take walk-in patients and appointments, as long as the patient is currently enrolled at the university. Contact your school's health center for more information. The University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh is one such school that offers these services.

Planned Parenthood

  • Step 1:
    Planned Parenthood is a nationwide organization that provides reproductive and sexual health care to adults and teens. It is funded by public grants, Medicaid and individual contributions, among other sources. Services include birth-control methods, family planning, sexually transmitted infection testing and abortion care. They also offer educational programs for schools and communities on subjects such as abstinence and sexual health.
