InstructionsMore Costly Plans Cover More IssuesStep 1: In health care, as in so many areas, money talks. This truism is found throughout the entire health care system in America. Unfortunately, many people who cannot afford good insurance are forced to pay for inadequate coverage. It's a vicious, never-ending cycle.
The Best Health InsuranceStep 1: The insurance plans that fall under the headings of PPO and HMO appear to offer the best coverage, but they are the most costly, too. Most large corporations offer very good health care plans because of their ability to spread the costs of the plan over a larger base of payers. The best advice, then, is to stick with a major medical plan from your employer and choose the options that are right for you in that plan. If you need supplemental health insurance, you can find it from companies such as AFLAC.
The Least Expensive Health InsuranceStep 1: Despite what you hear in the media, affordable health insurance is available. If you look, you can find decent plans from companies such as Anthem, Cinergy Health Plans, Assurant Direct and AARP (Aetna). The problem with these plans is that their insurance only covers standard health issues, not catastrophic ones such as cancer and other major diseases.
As far as cost is concerned, you will find that these plans offer coverage for a husband and wife with minimal pre-existing conditions for less than $400 per month. It would probably be best to add supplemental insurance to it to cover any catastrophic occurrences.
Take Control of Your HealthStep 1: The best way to make health insurance more affordable is to take control of your health by taking good care of yourself. That way, you will have fewer health issues and fewer reasons to use your health insurance. Look at it this way: You take care of your car and perform preventive maintenance on it in the form of oil changes, tire rotations, etc. You need to take the same approach to maintaining your health. Exercise often, eat more of the right things and remove health risks such as smoking and excessive drinking. A little prevention will go a long way toward reducing your health care costs.
