Measure Entertainment Accessories

  • Step 1:
    The first thing to do when planning your cabinet entertainment center is to measure the television and all accessories you plan to have. Measure your television and then decide if you may replace it at any point after you have built your entertainment center around it. If you might buy a bigger one at some point, then allow an extra 5 to 10 inches for it.. Measure your DVD player, amplifier, video game system or any entertainment component you might want to include in your center on shelves above or below the television.

Measure the Space

  • Step 1:
    The space where you are placing your entertainment center should be considered with other living room furniture as well as walking areas around the cabinet entertainment center itself. Outlets are also an important consideration; they should be near the entertainment center, as it's not aesthetically pleasing to have cords and wires running across or around the entire living room. So either plan on adding a power source behind the entertainment center or place the entertainment center near one.

Cabinet Doors

  • Step 1:
    The entertainment center's cabinet doors are important to consider as well. The doors should fold or be pushed away when they are open, out of sight. A sliding door could be installed in the cabinet which is a novel approach or you could install classically hinged cabinet doors which can be bent flush against the outer part of the entertainment center or slid back into the entertainment center itself once they are fully opened.
