Raster

  • Step 1:
    Raster graphics are bitmap images, made of pixels or points of color. They are stored as image files as opposed to graphic files. Microsoft's Paint is a classic example of a raster image editing program.

Vector

    Vector graphics use geometrical lines, points and curves to form shapes. Vectors are based on mathematical equations. Adobe's Illustrator is an example of a program that uses vectors.

Photography

  • Step 1:
    Various photo editing programs exist. They have tools like cropping, reducing red eye, resizing, blurring and sharpening.

3D

  • Step 1:
    CG, digit effects and CAD are specialized programs used to create and render images. They are extremely complex programs aided by mathematical equations but allow designers to generate anything from photorealistic lighting to the weight distribution of an object on structural anatomy.
