Corel Paint Shop Pro Vs. Adobe Photoshop
Monday, September 28, 2009
InstructionsApplicationStep 1: Both Corel Paint Shop Pro and Adobe Photoshop can perform a variety of image editing tasks, and are used in the designing of flyers, posters and other visual media. Both programs can adjust color, saturation and tone, and can also be used to distort, crop, retouch, and layer images. In photographs, both Paint Shop Pro and Photoshop can remove red-eye, and make a person's unwanted skin blemishes disappear. Adobe Photoshop has a wider array of applications as it can perform image sharpening, a task of which Paint Shop Pro is incapable.
Special FeaturesStep 1: According to PCmag.com, one of the features that sets Adobe Photoshop apart from other image editing software is its content-aware scaling. Content-aware scaling allows users to alter the proportions of an image (for example, changing a 4x6-inch photo to eight-by-ten inches) without distorting the important details of that image. One of Corel Paint Shop Pro's distinguishing features is its auto-preserve originals tool. When activated, an original copy of the image being worked on is automatically tucked away in a new folder. If editing mistakes occur, the "restore original" command can be given, and the untouched version appears. However, once this is performed, the edited version is permanently deleted.
Ease of UseStep 1: According to PCmag.com, Adobe Photoshop's interface can at times be confusing, and the way tasks are split up can seem counterintuitive. Conversely, Corel Paint Shop Pro is very user-friendly, and features a learning center that not only provides basic tutorials but expansive wizards, which walk users step-by-step through both basic and complicated tasks.
Professional UseStep 1: Contrary to its name, Corel Paint Shop Pro is not the more popular image-editing program amongst professionals. However, there are some professionals, especially those on a budget or who have just started out - who use it. Oppositely, Adobe Photoshop is the industry-standard: the most widely used image-editing program in the realm of professional photography, design and other related fields.
PriceStep 1: According to PCmag.com, the standard Adobe Photoshop costs $699, while the extended edition costs $999. Corel Paint Shop Pro is much less expensive at $100. However, Adobe also makes a stripped-down version of Photoshop called Elements, which -- like Paint Shop Pro -- costs around $100.
