    Pablo Picasso was born on October 25, 1881, in Spain. As a child, he moved around often, spending considerable time in Barcelona during his teen years. Ultimately, he attended school at the Royal Academy of San Fernando in Madrid.

Production

    During his lifetime, it is estimated that he produced 50,000 works of art, including paintings, sculptures, ceramics and drawings. On May 4, 2004, one of his paintings, "Garcon a la pipe," sold for a record $104 million.

Identification

  • Step 1:
    Picasso's artwork can be divided up into a number of different periods, including the Blue Period of 1901 to 1904, the Rose Period of 1905 to 1907, the African Period from 1908 to 1909, the Analytic Cubism Period from 1909 to 1912 and Synthetic Cubism from 1912 to 1919.

Considerations

  • Step 1:
    During both World Wars and the Spanish Civil War, Picasso remained neutral. As a pacifist, he refused to take sides. However, during the late 1940s and early 1950s, he joined the Communist Part, even being awarded the Lenin Peace Prize in 1950.

Death

  • Step 1:
    Pablo Picasso died in Mougins, France, on April 8, 1973. In his final moments, he said, "Drink to me, drink to my health, you know I can't drink anymore."
