Thus, if you receive a perm, it may turn out to be frizzy and unmanageable. It could also will not last as long as if you were not pregnant.

    Also, all hair treatments (perms, dyes, highlights) have chemicals which can be absorbed into the mother's body through her scalp. There is also the potential risk from the fumes in the salon, even if the treatments are being done on someone else.

    Check with your OBGYN before using any chemicals. Some doctors may give the green light while others think it is too risky for you or your baby. If you go ahead and decide to get a perm or relax your hair, do so in a well-ventilated area. Explain to the hairdresser that you are pregnant and you would like a fan or a window opened. This will help relieve any headaches or chemical reactions you may experience.
