Since 1874 a sincere group of Bible Students has been eagerly awaiting the complete sanctification of Jehovah's name in answer to the Model Prayer at Matthew 6:9-13.

Out of eager anticipation and partial knowledge, the very meaning and timing of that day has been misunderstood and at times, rather poorly presented.

I've known a few Witnesses who were alive in 1914 era. Many of them lived their lives as if the end would come tomorrow and most said they had no regrets for doing so, quite the contrary.

You will find many statements such as 'it would be appropriate if...' or 'we might well expect...' Those of us who serve with eternity in view don't pin our hopes on any date or expectation. Maybe some of these statements have had the flavor of prediction or prophecy. Those more concerned with personal salvation than with serving the Creator may have been stumbled or disappointed. Those occupied with His vindication have continued witnessing to the things we have seen and heard.

In 1975 i moved from my parents' comfortable farm to a difficult preaching territory. My thinking was 'if the end comes this year, i spent the last few months doing something important; if not, i'm still spending my time doing the best possible work. Over 30 years later, i am still very happy that i've spent these years, not watching the clock, but helping others learn the Bible and learning myself to apply it so much better than i did back then.
