You're reading People from New Jersey and Oregon (where attendants pump your gas): Is it considered customary to tip the gas attendant?

Thanks for the info, that's kind of what I figured. I'm from Idaho, and filled up in Oregon on my way home from Washington yesterday. I tipped the guy $1, and he looked pretty surprised, so I figured it wasn't the norm. He didn't seem to mind though. :)

Haha yeah, I bet they do get tipped every so often. It's nice to have someone pump your gas, but at the same time, occasionally there is one guy working and ten cars waiting.
