The color of your urine has NOTHING to do with the potential for forming kidney stones. Urine color can be caused by many factors. Continual dark urine can be a sign of disease such as, but not including diabetes, dehydration(causing highly concentrated urine), excess exercise (causing the excretion of lactic acid in the urine), kidney infection, bladder infection, or, some other malady. You should drink a significant amount of fluid every day. People will say do not drink soda or juice, but the majority of these drinks are made up of water and the body will take in the water fromt hese drinks. The question is " How much water/fluid" do you take in each day". Do you exercise or run around alot. Are you sick alot. Has this yellow urine been with you your whole life? Do you work out alot, or play sports? Are you dieting?

If the answers to these questions are YES, then the color could be what is called idiosyncratic, or basicially, its how your body just simply is.

On the other hand you might want to go to the doctor and have tests run, especially uranalysis.

Ultimately, kidney stones are not caused because your urine is dark yellow. The darkness can be caused by many reasons. Kidney stones are caused by excess calcium, or magnesium, or oxalates in the body, or, by the presence of excess body salts. In some cases, colas and similar drinks help prevent stones, in other cases, they would aggrevate the problem.

The best test wouldbe to drink at least 1 gallon of water a day for 2 or 3 days. If your urine color does not change, maybe it'd be a good time to see a doctor. If it does lighten after the end of 3-5 days, then perhaps you need a bit more water---but being dehyrdated will not lead to the formation of stones.

All you need to do it check the Kidney Foundation's website
