Help answer this question below.
erm...
I struggle with this. I don't really think its quite on the same level as actual murder (For example- if a mother's life were at risk from carrying a child, I think forcing her to carry it is far closer to murder than allowing an abortion. Forcing a young girl who's been raped to give birth to the child of her own father I think also amounts to a far greater crime than abortion).
But that's not to say I feel comfortable about it either. I think society has become very flippant about the issue- women get pregnant at inconvenient moments and have a "oh never mind, I'll just get an abortion" attitude.
I think its a highly unpleasant thing that I'd really rather didn't happen- but there are situations where its the lesser of two evils.

Hemiman, LF feels like there isn't a clearcut yes or no. I think that answers the question.
by Darkling on September 26th, 2006
why doesn't it answer the question? Not every question has a simple "yes" or "no" answer.
by lady fuschia on September 27th, 2006
lady f, you are right, there are circumstances where it might be ok. I stand corrected. But please dont tell my girlfriend I said I was wrong. She would never let me forget it.

LOL! OK, I promise.

Good statement of your opinion and as this question is specifically asking for opinions this is a useful answer, though I am not sure that I entirely agree with you.

This is a really good answer. Thoughtful and honest.

For what it is worth, I have worked in abortion clinics and I have talked with many women who have had abortions. I've never met one for whom it was not a very difficult decision that haunted them for a long time.

Exactly -- *nobody* I have ever talked to about this is "in favor of abortion". It is always traumatic, painful, and heart-rending. The debate is over whether or not the state has the right to forbid the procedure, and over the moral issues involved. But any time you reduce moral issues to a simple rule (i.e. "it's always murder"), you can bet that paradoxes and "what if?...'s " will abound.
by Stableboy on November 20th, 2006
I agree, certain circumstances make the procedure far more understandable. Enough so, that I can't see the issue ever being cut and dry one way or the other, regardless of one's beliefs. My stance has changed somewhat over the years but I don't want the church or politicians making the decisions for us.

littlemissdangerous: No one wants the church or state making decisions for them on any matter. We want the church and state to make decisions about everyone else. :)

i think that an abortion is right for certain situations(like littlemissdangerous and stableboy say)but it is for the woman to make the choice after giving it alot of thought.
by rgypsy on December 15th, 2006
It is definately an issue of circumstance. Murder has been completely skewed from its original meaning and been thwarted into almost complete obscurity. The honest truth of all these situations is that its the person's choice, since elementary school we've been conditioned to stand up for ourselves, state our opinions and don't let others think for us, yet the government continually insists on stating its overpowering opinion onto the weaker beings of the country. So in all respects, let the one such a situation concerns speak for themselves and make their own decisions.
