Well, it USED to be a great site. Now it has become more and more like myspace... still better then myspace though overall.

It was good because it only allowed people with a COLLEGE email to register, filtering out all the idiots that either have not gone to college yet or never did. This kept the site mature and exclusive. Adding in corporate emails was ok, but then they added in high school emails and then opened it up and now it has lost it's exclusive charm.

Also, pages were minimalistic and not customizable. This kept the site nice and clean, with only the necessary information about the person. Also profiles were private by default and you could only look for people in your network(which isn't calculated to the 123123123125434th person like in myspace).

But just like with anything that you love. It will be dumbed down and made idiot friendly, repackaged, and sold until it has been fully exploited. Which is exactly what has happened to facebook. Top friends, high schoolers, music on pages, gifts. It is all screwing up facebook.

    • Yeah, I'm not on facebook as much anymore. The applications are ruining it for me.

    • Well there are many ways to do what facebook does free and privately. But to dumb it down makes it easier for people to communicate without doing a free webpage setup themselves. However today it just as fast or faster to do it yourself and keep it private and confidential and not have to worry about what gets sold to marketers and businesses or perverts or worst. The government doesn't want it that way as it is easier for them then having to get a warrant to get into your personal site. What ever happened to email and chat? They use the same protocols. Plus you can post your current status if you don't want to use a personal website? It just seems silly and lazy to me and very unpersonal. Data miners just adore these sites.

    • Well it is just as easy to setup your own webpage to communicate. Its private and can be secured with a login. But the government doesn't want you to know that as it is easier to get into the social networks than to get a warrant to get into your private webpage. Businesses and data miners love the social networks as well. Free marketing and marketing info. Never mind the perverts, psychos and worst. It needs to be dumbed down to make it seem like it is convienant when it is really open season on you. Mush easier for the social networks to make money off of you.
