What's the difference between a "trekkie" and a "trekker"?

    Trekkie is the term that Gene Roddenbury used, even correcting a fan that attempted to correct him when he used it. “Excuse me, did you say 'TrekkER?' The word is 'TrekkIE.' I should know, I created them."

    So trekker is used by fans that don't really want to be seen as geeks? I don't know. I call myself a trekkie even though I've never been to a convention or collected any merchandise.

    Maybe they're fans of Star Trek that also like to hike.
