Are men stronger than women?

    Ok some words from a man :-)

    Men produce a LOT more testosteron than women, that's why they call testosteron 'the male hormone'. Testosteron increases the mass of your muscles and is behind the facial hair and male voice.. and most of all: increases your libido a lot, this explains why (most) men want sex so bad. It also makes you more competetive: men always want a nicer/better car than their friends for example. The fact is that men are physically stronger, I think men are in average 30 to 40% PHYSICALLY stronger than women.

    Also women aren't built to be physically as active as men (i don't mean sex ;-) ) I mean the construction of their body, they have breasts for example, they can be in the way and are fragile.. not really a good thing when wrestling with evil beasts outside the cave where your family is ;-) (during the evolution) The reason why women are getting older than men in average, i think, is because men still do the heavy lifting jobs, your body will break down faster that way.

    MENTALLY men are more aggressive than women.. I think that happened during the evolution because they always had to fight and protect the females and children. It is also the society in all countries that want a man to be very tough and don't show emotions such as crying.. women eager to talk about their problems, men try to keep it for themselves. Talking about your problems is very important, if you don't do it while your problems pile up it will explode someday. Women are wiser on this point.

    In the history most of the greatest inventions were done by men.. i don't think it's because men are way smarter than women. The intelligence of men and women are equal! (both sexes have dumb and smart ones). The reason because of this is that men are physically stronger than women and supressed women: do what i say, raise the kids, cook and clean etc instead of discovering new things.

    I am happy that men in the current western society are seeing women as equals, tho there are still some problems. But give women a fair chance and the world will be a lot better.. only testosteron in the government led to many wars in the past.. women have the right to vote and be elected, 1st american FEMALE president.. can't wait to see that :-) Germany already made the step.

    I don't care who's stronger.. we are all humans and should work together for peace, and a safe world to raise kids without having to fight :-) And men and women simply CAN'T live without eachother.

    • About breasts getting in the way of fighting...I just have to believe that testicles would be a bit more vulnerable. I don't even know how you guys don't get hurt just sitting down!

      The current psychoemtric studies suggest that women adopt traditional roles and are more inclined to submit to authority of their husbands/men because of the way their brains are wired neurobiologically. This isn't to do with coercion or domination, but simlpy the way God/evolution has designed us.

      Not quite true. There are certain skills (mathematics, science, spatial congition etc) which men are better at. Women show a predisposition towards verbal ability, language and good short term memory. What's most important here is that men show greater variance in IQ than women, and therefore the proportion of men is much greater in hgher IQs; hence why you will always find a preponderance of men who are nobel prize winners, chess grandmasters, fields medalists etc. The membership for mensa for example is 2:1 male:female according to the US demographics for 2008.

      I agree but but about what you said "Women are wiser on this point." I think the same society that frowns upon men showing emotions "lets" women do that, It isn't because they are wiser.

      You are right about the greater variations of men than women but I didn't hear you mention women's linguistic advantage over men.

      There are things in which men are better at, like maths & spatial ability and there are thing in which women are a step ahead like language & memory.
      Overall men have so far managed to score roughly 3 or 4 points above women but remember appealing to authority is a logical fallacy and correlation does not imply causation.

    • I liked the aritcle. However, I feel that a lot of strength is due to environmental factors, including how a child is treated from a very young age. For instance, boys are more likely to receive active and motion-related toys - toy cars, footballs, etc., and they're more likely to be involved in sporting clubs that would increase strength like football or martial arts. If two twins were born from the same mother, one male, one female, and of similar weight, and BOTH children are brought up the same (as boys), I doubt there'd be too much difference in their strength.

      However, one thing I haven't seen mentioned is the fact that men are generally taller than women, longer arms and legs in Physics would increase the moment produced by the same about of force, so, for instance, a man with a longer arm than a woman is more likely to win the arm wrestle.
