You're reading Is hot water over a metal lid that is stuck on a glass jar is easier to get off or harder?
Comments
There are no "absolute sciences". There are hard sciences like physics and chemistry. There are soft sciences like sociology and psychology. Anyway your answer is also misleading some compounds like water expand as they get colder. Anyway, you must have only been listening half the time in physics as well, because even though most materials tend to expand, they will expand at different rates. Metal expands faster than glass given the same heat input (streaming hot water), hence it's radius will increase relative to that of the glass jar and twist and pop off comes the lid. The original suggest was right, it does help to run hot water over the jar lid.
