As an atheist I celebrate because it is fun, it feels good to spend time with your family, it is a national holiday, and it's a great tradition that we were doing since we were born, and it has nothing to do with any religion at all.

    • So what? In English language you've put Christ in it, I'm from Slovakia, been celebrating X-mass since I was born, and the Slovakian word for it doesn't have Christ in it, religious ppl might have started it, I'm glad, it's one of the few good things that came out of religion.

    • The first letter in the Greek word for Christ is Chi, which looks like an X, hence Xmas. However, as AntigoneRising correctly noted, Christmas was lifted from an old pagan celebration.

    • Don't forget the Christmas presents under the tree. Nothing was more fun than trying to sneak a peek, shaking and guessing, trying to see through the wrappings, of the presents before Christmas day. Not to forget trying to say up until past midnight...
