NASA currently has three active Space Shuttles. The are Atlantis, Discovery, and Endeavour. Also NASA has a Shuttle with no engines, named the Enterprise, which was used to test reentry landing before Columbia, our first active shuttle, launched in 1980. We have lost two Shuttles, Challenger and Columbia. Also, we lost one Apollo Shuttle, the first one which killed three astronauts including famed Mercury astronaut Gus Grissom. However, the number of casualties in relation to the number of launches in US space history is very low.
