Could be the fuel pump. You can have all the fuel you want in the tank but if the engine can't get it, then you ain't going nowhere.

How old is your car? When you turn the key to the 'ON' position, do you hear the whirr of the fuel pump engaging? You can check fuel pressure by turning it to the on position and checking the fuel rail. If you don't know anything about this then get a mechanically inclined friend, CAA, or get it towed to a shop.
