The "Dr. Laura" thing: Was the caller sensitive or "hypersensitive"?

Talk radio host Dr. Laura Schlessinger recently had a very controversial discussion on her show. A black female caller called in to complain about the way her white husband's friends used the "n-word." In her response, Schlessinger used the word 11 times over the next few minutes.

Said Schlessinger: "Black guys use it all the time. Turn on HBO and listen to a black comic, and all you hear is n****, n*****, n*****. I don't get it. If anybody without enough melanin says it, it's a horrible thing. But when black people say it, it's affectionate. It's very confusing." (Read full transcript.)

Later, Schlessinger said in reference to the caller, "If you're that hypersensitive about color and don't have a sense of humor, don't marry out of your race."

I don't think the caller was hypersensitive at all when she asked the question she'd called in about. Dr Laura, as usual, was exremely rude and would not let the woman finish what she was saying. She didn't let the caller tell her what was said before she jumped to conclusions as usual. I really can't stand Dr Laura. Although in this case she had some points, but the were overshaddowed by her reaction to the caller, who was just calling in to get advice for a common problem. Dr Laura is an idiot. Again, sometimes she has good points, but they are overshadowed by her extreme judgemental behavior and rudeness. I'm surprised she's lasted on the air as long as she has.
