I was told by a supervisor when I worked for the post office that I could not wear my Navy jacket because it still had my E-6 chevrons on it. I thought that was pretty stupid.

    • If you worked for me I would tell you the same, you are not in the Navy anymore! Sorry:)

    • If I worked in an office or something I could understand, but delivering mail, its stupid, and I dont work for you. Give me one good reason and not the ignorant "your not in the Navy anymore" thing. Well, I will tell you now, you cannot come up with an answer that will satisfiy me. In the town I live in now, they dont even wear the postal uniform, just levis and regular clothes, so as far as I am concerned there is no good reason. But I left them when I found a better paying job. And supervisors with common sense.

    • Because a navy Uniform is worn by Navy personnel when performing their duty, not by postal workers, is that a good enough reason?

    • No. I wasnt wearing the uniform just a working jacket. Because it was winter and was the only work jacket I had. Like I said, you cant give me a good reason.

    • So the only thing you had to wear was your navy jacket which had your rank on?

I'll tell you straight, that as someone who has been involved in several large private, and state organisations that wearing ANY part of a military uniform would not be acceptable. That is why you were told not to wear it. Almost all companies have a dress code, if someone turns up to work who breaks the dress code, they are either told not to wear the item again or sent home to change.

You broke the dress code, so that by itself is enough of a reason, without even adding the fact that you felt it necessary to wear a
military uniform to work. If you miss the uniform so much maybe you should consider rejoining.

    • I think it is stupid. Maybe that is good enough reason in England, but not here for me, anyway. Not when othere workers are wearing civilian jackets that do not have postal emblems on them. There is no good reason for them telling me I couldnt wear it.

    • Except for the fact that any part of any military uniform should never be worn outside of offcial duty and it is also tacky and disrespectful to the uniform.

    • I always loved over the top tightasses who overdid the whole "respecting the uniform". I can understand not dressing like a slob or tramp but the uniform is nothing but clothes.
