When it's done out of anger.

When it's hard enough to leave a mark.

When it's done by someone other than a parent.

    • I would say anyone other than a family member - I remember, once, I swore in front of my grandmother, and she gave me a spanking, and really, looking back, that is exactly what she should have done.

    • I'd be upset if anyone spanked my kids. I don't spank them, just because I can't bring myself to do it. If someone else took it upon themselves to lay a hand on my child, I'd probably kill them.

    • I have no children of my own, but I have godchildren, and if they do something bad enough to warrant it, they get a spanking.

    • I would never dream of laying a hand on someone else's child, either. To each his own.

    • I've never met a parent who could spank when not angry to some extent.

    • If the act violates any private areas, then it would be deemed abuse. If one constantly hits, no matter where, then it is abuse. And if one demoralizes another no matter what age, then it is abuse. There is more than one way to abuse a child unfortunately and it only gets worse when the parent justifies it as it can only get worse.
