Should a ten year old watch PG 13 or R movies?

    It's very scarey to me to see all these posts saying it is OK because they watched them when they were that age or kids are exposed to worse in school. The ratings are way more relaxed then they were 10-20 years ago. I have a 10 year old and in my household she is NEVER allowed to watch R rated movies. Some PG-13 movies these days are really bad as well (more like the R rated of the past.) I find with PG-13 I take them case by case. Some I will allow her to watch after I have screened the content. Others, there is no way I would let her watch them. Unfortunately her other household tends to let her watch R rated horror movies and she ends up terrified when she comes back home and has problems sleeping. I say as parents it is our responsibility to try to set the best examples we can and teach morals and values to our children. Children are exposed to too much too soon these days already. I will not be a lax parent and say it's OK to let them watch inappropriate things because they "hear or see worse at school anyway." Come on people, take responsibility for teaching your children. Just because the schools seem to be filled with more and more children who have bad parenting examples does not mean I will not do my best to teach my children the correct things. Ultimately it will be their choice what the do with it, but my daughter will grow up at least having the choice of following a good example rather then what she is exposed to outside of the home.
