Gerry Andersen actually approached Rolls-Royce in person before beginning construction. Rolls Royce approved of the design before plans were sent to model makers. Since the show is dated in the year 2065, Rolls-Royce agreed that it was not out of the question that their product ought to have six wheels!

Sylvia Andersen recounts that Rolls-Royce extended Thunderbirds every courtesy and even provided props and logos. The only string attached (no pun intended) was that whenever the limo was referred to in the script, it must always be called "The Rolls-Royce". The auto maker would not tolerate Lady Penelope ever using the term "Rolls" or "Roller".
